Review Fushigi Yugi Eikoden

It has been three years since Miaka's adventure in the Universe of the four gods. She married Taka and is now pregnant. This infuriates Mayo, a girl who infatuated with Taka. Interestingly enough fate has placed the magic book in Mayo's hands and she intends to use it to get Taka for herself. When she arrives in the book world Miaka loses her baby and it is transported to Mayo. Now the only think that can set things right is the Suzaku seven as Taka must track down people that have already died and been reincarnated.

Generally when a anime series is very popular the powers that be will produce Oavs to squeeze more money out of the franchise. Usually these Oavs are not as good as the original story as they are tacked on to an already complete story. Eikoden fits this description almost perfectly. It also relies on building sympathy for Mayo which is hard do to her actions in the first half of the story.

The animation for this oav is pretty good. The one exception is the beast gods which are rendered in very bad computer graphics.

To be completely fair Eikoden is not a bad story. It just isn't as good as the rest of Fushigi Yugi. I would recommend that you watch the television show first and only get this if you are big fan of it, and if you are you probably will get this no matter what I say. I give Fushigi Yugi Eikoden a rating of fair/ good.
