Review Ruroni Kenshin Written by Warpshadow Rating excellent

If you were to ask me some of the things I have done wrong with Anifanatikku, not reviewing Ruroni Kenshin sooner would be near the top of my list. At least now I have stopped waiting and can now give my whole hearted recommendation for this show.

In the 1860's Japan underwent a bloody civil war called the Meiji revolution. One of the greatest warriors of that era Himura Kenshin was known as the Hitokiri Battosai (in the dub known as Battosai the manslayer). Yet for some reason at the end of the war he vanished. Ten years later a wanderer shows up. He has made an oath never to kill again and carries a sword that has a reversed blade. Interestingly enough this wanderer is in fact the legendary warrior Battosai. After helping a young dojo named Kaoru Kamiya master with a villain falsely claiming to be Battosai Kenshin settles down and begins a new life with her.

Ruroni Kenshin is one of the best anime shows I have ever seen. It is hard to say what is best about the show since characters are memorable (I have even done a piece on Kaoru) the plot and philosophical elements are insightful and the action sequences are exciting. When I watch one of the shows I have owned for a while I often watch Kenshin. By now you must be asking Warpshadow, if you like the show so much why didn't you give it a perfect rating? Well the only problem with this show is that the episodes vary in quality. Even though some of the episodes aren't that great the better ones (particularly the second season known as the Kyoto arc) are definitely worth the filler.
