Review Fushigi Yugi Oav Written by Warpshadow Rating Very Good

It is almost an axiom of anime that almost any successful television show will spawn and Oav in an attempt to squeeze more money out of the franchise. Unfortunately many of these Oavs are lackluster. Is the Fushigi Yugi Oav the same? Fear not for it is based off of the last four volumes of the manga.

Even after summoning Suzaku the adventure that Miaka undertook is not completely over. One day while visiting the grave of the priestess of Genbu Taka (what they call Tamahome now that he has crossed over between worlds and is no longer officially Suzaku warrior) notices that that grave is disappearing as though the priestess was being erased from history. In the world contained inside the book the universe of the four gods lies a demon named Tenkou who has the power to bring ruin to the world. Called back into the realm of adventure Miaka and the Suzaku Seven must once again prove the power of their devotions.

The Fushigi Yugi Oav collection is a welcome addition to the Fushigi Yugi storyline. Even though this is a supplementary Oav with the appropriate warnings that such Oavs have the quality of the plot is the same as the television series unlike many Oavs which just feel tacked on. The Oav has it's ups and downs but for the most part they mirror the strengths and flaws of the television show. Since the main draw of the show is it's characters it is nice to see that several of the characters are able to get their own moments of glory. The animation is much the same as the television series but with slightly more attention paid to the drawings themselves. Overall if you liked Fushigi Yugi the Oav series is definitely worth your time and money.
