Anime Review: Initial D
Review Initial D Written by Warpshadow Rating good
While not exactly this is sort of a sports anime, which is kind of rare to be licensed in America. The show is kind of fun but it is really a niche type of show, you will either love it or hate it.
The Akina speed stars in a heap of trouble. Another group called the Akagi Red suns have challenged them to a race and no one on the team is good enough to beat them. One night before the race one of the Red suns is passed by an unknown driver. The person driving the car is none other than Takumi Fujiwara, who has been delivering Tofu on that same mountain road every day for five years. Takumi could be the secret weapon that the speed stars need to win if only he can be convinced to participate in the upcoming race.
Initial D is a different and interesting show but not without it's flaws. The characters are rather boring as people. The character designs are poor especially Itsuki's (Iggy). The worst part has to be the dub which decided to change the character's names. There is some good things about the show too. The creators used a computer animation (and quite well) for the cars making the race scenes look good. The plot is constructed for something of a soap opera which can be highly enthralling. Finally I would be remiss if I didn't mention the soundtrack which is really fun to listen to and even has several good songs when races happen.
