Review Futakoi Written by Warpshadow Rating fair Often times in romantic comedies the creators try to balance a huge cast of characters by giving each of them a shtick to make them more memorable. This can make for a passable show but Futakoi lacks even this, they have a guy who twelve girls are after and all twelve have the same shtick.

Since his parents moved abroad Nozomu moved in with his aunt in the town where he lived as a child. When he was little he moved away and left his friends the twin sisters, Kaoruko and Sumireko, behind. Walking into a store he sees a pair of twins and assumes that it is them. In fact it is another pair of twins, Yura and Kira, on their first shopping trip. What Nozumu finds out is that due to an ancient curse the town is filled with pairs of twins.

I have been watching anime for several years and seen more than my fair share of romance shows aimed at men and rarely have I seen one as bad as Futakoi. First off the idea of twins is pulled off horribly, in five cases out of six they are not treated like two people that look alike but two copies of the same person. The characters themselves are bland and even the twins barely have a two dimensional personality to share between them. As can be expected the main character is a useless and flimsy character who does little but have girls flit around him for little reason. There are a few redeeming qualities in the show (namely Sara and Soujyu) but they are few and far between. Without decent comedy or action to back up this utter failure of a romance show Futakoi is well worth missing.
