Anime Review: Noir

Review Noir Written by Warpshadow Rating very good

If you think of anime as an artform (and to some extent that is true) you must remember that it is part story and part style. Noir is a show that has style to spare (also note how I overuse the words style and cool in this review).

Mirielle Bouquet is a professional assassin. One day she receives and anonymous email offering clues about her past. When she arrives at the place specified by the email she sees another woman named Kirika who can't remember her past except for a few clues that link her to Mirielle and an unexplainable talent for killing. The two vow to find out the truth and work together under the code name Noir. The name Noir is famous in the underworld, it causes people to rightly fear Mirielle and Kirika but it also creates problems from them that come from an unknown source.

What makes Noir and enjoyable show isn't so much the characters or plot but the style of the show. Noir has a very noticeable soundtrack which gives the show much of it's flavor, especially during the gun fights which happen every episode. The battles are a bit unrealistic but this is a show about being cool, not plausibility. This is also a show about hot girls kicking ass and the creators were able to pull this off without excessive fan service. The show is a bit slow to start but once the conspiracy kicks into high gear everything is cool. While Noir might not be the best show out there it is good enough and different enough to be well worth watching.
