There is a phrase known as jumping the shark which is applied to a franchise that has lost what made it good in the first place and is on a death spiral towards complete lack of quality. As most of you can probably guess this term most definitely applies to Slayers Try.

Lina Inverse is a sorceress extraordinare who wields magic strong enough to slay demon lords. Her latest victory had the side effect of breaking the barrier that seperated the continent she lived on from the rest of the world. Like any good adventurer Lina and her companions see a new frontier and can't resist the urge to see what is there. Waiting for them was the dragon priestess Filia who needs them to fulfill a prophecy that concerns the fate of the world. Complicating matters is Valgaav, another dragon of immense power who wants vengeance against both Lina and Filia's tribe of dragons.

Slayers is anime anime franchise based off of a collection of novels but unlike the first two seasons Slayers Try has an entirely original plot. As is often the case with adaptations that start to diverge from their original source the result is something that can be best described as disappointing. The animation quality also took a bit of a dip from what is was in the previous seasons. While Slayers has a history of combing comedy with more serious action Slayers Try had the annoying habit of dropping a lame gag in a serious scene. This is a show that I would not recommend to anybody but a Slayers completist and if you are one of those people you would probably watch this even if I told you not to.
