They say some things are like fine wine and just get better with age. I am not sure if that is true but I do know that Star Blazers gets better with the second season.

AS if by some miracle the Earth recovered rapidly from the devastation brought by the Gamalons,; becoming green again in only one year. The people of Earth have forgotten their past hardships and have begun to live in an ignorant peace. The members of the Star Force however realize that there is a new threat looming on the horizon in the shape of an ominous white comet. A possible source of information about the comet is a garbled message from Trelaina of Telezart. So the Star Force sets out to meet Trelaina about this new threat even if they must disobey the Earth government to do so.

If the first season of Star Blazers was a historic achievement in animation then the second season (the subject of this review) builds on that success and becomes a show that looks more like the predecessor of the 26 episode television series. Even if this show is an improvement on the first season it is not meant to be viewed alone as it refers to previous events with some regularity. The biggest improvement is the way that episodes flow together more cleanly to create a solid plot. It also allows for more involved character interaction as characters are given more of a chance to evolve. Even so I would only go so far as to say that if you watched the Quest For Iscandar you might as well follow up with The Comet Empire.
