Even though I am a fan I consider this to be a middle tier entry to the Leijiverse subgenre of anime. I am not sure how non fans will think of it although the show is strong enough to stand on it’s own merits.

The Galaxy is a big place and the Galaxy Railways is the system that connects it all and the SDF is the organization that exists to make sure that the railways run smoothly. This is a very dangerous occupation and many lives are lost pursuing this mission. However for Manabu Ueki, the call of duty and adventure of the SDF is too strong to resist even though his father and older brother have died in service to the SDF. Will his fate match his family's or will survive long enough to change the galaxy?

Galaxy railways is a 26 episode television series from the mind of Leiji Matsumoto, after all who else would make a show about spaceships that look and act like trains? As such this is a show more about hot blooded adults rather that the various moe archetypes that overpopulate the anime shows of today. The show is episodic for the most part with a six episode story arc finishing the show up. Although as is with any episodic show the value is a mixed bag the writing is good enough to place the show a bit above average. I do recommend this show but especially to those in need of another dose of Matsumoto Nostalgia.
