When you review as many anime shows or practically anything as I do once in a while you come across a show that you can identify as quality material on an intellectual level but fail to connect with emotionally. Noein is such as show for me.

Haruka is a normal girl living in Hokkaido with her mother. While thoughts of playing with her friends all summer long fill her head a danger from beyond her reality emerges. Travelers from another dimension look for Haruka or as they call her the dragon torque to fill some sort need in their home dimension. What is even more surprising is that one of the travelers is actually Haruka’s friend Yu even though he goes by the name of Kurasu.

Noein is an odd sort of show that doesn’t really fall into any major category. It is something of a science fiction show with it’s frequent use of real world quantum mechanics theories. However this show is a bit too slice of life in it’s character development to really fit into hard science fiction or action that well. The main characters are really well developed although sometimes it seems to come at the expense of the flow of the plot. This is a show with a bit of everything and even though I knew it was a quality show it’s lack of focus really kept me from enjoying it as much as I could. I still recommend this show and feel that possibly that many viewers will like this more than I did.
