There is an anime show for everything and with Hoop Days Basketball is no exception. I view it as a middle of the road title which is best suited to those yearning for a basketball anime show.

Aikawa is a young man who loves nothing more than playing basketball. When he transferred to Mizuho High he found the boys basketball team was a mere husk of a team consisting of four players who don’t even practice. Eager to play his favorite sport Aikawa confronts several people including Fujiwara, a talented ball player who was responsible for the incident which caused the basketball team to fall from grace. Even if the rest of the team decides to come out of the locker room do they have what it takes to win?

The genre of sports based anime is a bit of a niche in the anime community and Hoops days is a fairly good example of the genre. The basketball action is pretty good in spot and the show does give the feeling that the creators understand the sport. This is hampered to some extent by the animation style which relies on blocky computer animation far too often for the show’s good. The character side or the show is decent with characters that manage to be more than stock opponents or team mates. Still this is a bit of a niche title but fortunately it is one that can bit purchased in a cheap box set if you think that it may be your niche.
