One thing I have learned is that if a genre is big enough the less expectations you can have for it. Flag is a show with mecha but it is nothing like the average mecha show.

Uddiyana is a third world country that has been gripped by the scourge of warefare. However there lies a ray of hope, a flag that was made famous by a photograph taken by Saeko Shirasu. A peace accord among the many factions of the country was going to be signed but the one thing that made it all possible, the flag, was stolen. In Response Shirasu was invited to travel with the elite military unit that was tasked with recovering the flag. As a photographer that has already changed the world what will she find on her journalistic mission?

Flag is a different sort of anime show being that it is an anime show that features mecha but despite that it goes for a greater deal of realism than most shows of it's or almost any other type. The direction of this show is rather innovative in that the majority of the show is shown through a the lens of a camera. However while this technique is interesting at times it can also feel incredibly lazy at times when scenes when the camera is put down. Overall I found Flag to be an interesting show but one that is a bit too arty for the average anime fan.
