I know this is a couple of weeks old but a couple of weeks ago there was no nz17 forums.

So there is a new name for the new nintendo and unlike revolution Wii in my opinion is a stupid name. I'm glad I stick with the playstation. So what do you think?
Wii will see you PlayStation 3, and raise you three Wiis for the same price.

($600 vs. ~$200)
so they saved money by having a stupid name?

Incidentally ps3 only costs 499 and that is bound to come down.
Not for a good year or two, and from what I've read, that $499 one has no memory card support.

And your saying that your going to pass over the idea of great gaming, just because the name sounds stupid? I thought that as a person who loves anime, and things of that ilke, who'd be the first person to say "Don't judge something on name only".
I don't play that many games anyways. Besides I don't know any friends who live near enough to make buying super smash brothers viable. That game is half the reason to buy a nintendo.

I just thought that they should of stayed with the name revolution. Can you guys forgive me?
Maybe, but you need to look at a few things first.

1. this is a list of dimensions and weight of some new systems.
PS3: 325mm x 98mm x 274mm / 5kg
Xbox: 320mm x 101mm x 260mm / 3.84kg
Xbox 360: 309mm x 83mm x 258mm /3.49kg
If you thought the xbox was heavy, just you wait.
And also you need to look at some videos at http://wii.nintendo.com/home.html
click on the gripping games part.
Also Nz you may want to do the same, as I seen some Sonic footage.
On the one hand, it is a dumb name, yes.
nz17 (Wednesday, 10 May 2006 21:08:22 +0000) to topic Re: Wii did they pick that name
But on the other hand, Nintendo wanted something short and memorable that hadn't been copyrighted. Revolution is a common English word and it would be difficult for Nintendo to defend/prosecute for itself in court over litigations if it was a common name. For example, Interact could leave the Nintendo name off the product, slap a "Revolution" on there, and call it official even if it wasn't an official "Nintendo Revolution" product.
Second it has been great for publicity. You hear the press always taking about the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 and never Nintendo's next system. Calling it the "Wii" has generated more jokes, talk, and press than Nintendo could ever hope to afford in the form of advertising.
Third the name is rather pronouncible in all languages and short to write. Otherwise we may have seen people thinking up lame abbreviates for it like NRV. But Wii is so short, no one needs to abbreviate it.
Then again, maybe they just wanted to write, "Wii have a Revolution on our hands."
I would check out Nintendo's site Link1986, but they had to have "the-latest-and-greatest" by doing the site in Flash 8, and Adobe is being a prick about releasing a Linux version of said player. So until Adobe gets off its collective butt and doesn't something about it, I cannot check out Flash 8 Web sites and content.

So I have just been an unwitting pawn of Nintendo all the time? Curse them. >:(
