Abilities / Skills: Mina's most infamous ability is her super speed. Of course she's displayed a problem with controlling it last time it was a main focus of any story. Her current sense of control is something that hasn't been explored. Mina is also good at babysitting orphans, a profession she helped Rosie with before she started to pursue a career in freedom fighting and singing. Nowadays the ability of focus is in fact her voice. Lesser abilities of focus with very little development is Mina's potential in leadership. Her ability to analyze data handed to her, and use it while going out to make a major decision that matters deeply to her.

Character Traits: Three piercings on her left ear usually adorned with loop earrings.

History

Mina the mongoose was a survivor of roboticization. many Mobians had been captured and facing roboticization. While Sonic managed to save the group Mina had been amongst, her mother hadn't been so lucky. Still mourning her mom being roboticized she was taken to Knothole with the other survivors, and she began to work for Rosie as a babysitter for the orphans.

However, the desire for Mina to confront Robotnik about what he has done didn't necessarily leave her. She would eventually set out to face Robotnik,to ask why her loved ones all became soulless robots. Meanwhile, Sonic was on his way to the same location with the sword of Acorns. When they bumped into each other again, he tried to convince her that it was dangerous, but Mina didn't care about the danger. Brave or no, her plan would be thwarted as bots would attempt to capture her again. Sonic would save Mina of course, but was then knocked out. It is then that she gains her super speed ability in an effort to save Sonic.

From that point Mina's a friend to Sonic, trying to cheer him up about issues surrounding Geoffrey's antagonistic nature in the 90s, and trains her super speed with Sonic's supervision. To get Sonic's attention towards the feelings that blossomed at around that time, she kissed him. The reaction on Sonic's part reflected more surprise than pleasure, dissapointing her greatly. Following this event, Mina would embark on a mission that would help restore the freedom of the Robians. This would mean her mother whom she had missed so deeply was free to be with her again.

So, as one problem within Mina's life became resolved, Her relationship with Sonic was an entirely seperate matter. In the midst of this understanding, Mina conveniently encountered Sally, a resource of information towards Sonic's past, and with any luck, characteristics gone unnoticed. Knowing this, Mina asked questions as to what made him tick. Also, because her mother's free will was restored due to the sword of Acorns (the mission that led to the Robians becoming free), she also would ask her mom for help too later on. Mina would go as far as become a freedom fighter, quit, and then become a singer since that ability caught Sonic's attention best.

As their relationship progressed, the other figure of romantic interest in Sonic's life is none too happy it. Though, before she can confront Sonic with feelings she has, Nack kidnaps her and both Sonic and Mina set out to save her. Once saved, it is then that princess Sally admitted her feelings to Sonic, and Sonic reveals that he had a mutual interest in her as well. Mina is broken feeling completely unloved by Sonic (However, before we go further I might add that he did imagine Mina as his girlfriend as well as Sally in 111, but Mina doesn't and may never know that). Despite that, she takes a bullet aimed at Sally's head so that Sonic could be happy, even if not with her. The new couple that nearly ceased to be moments prior, were both devastated by what happens but manages to get her to a hospital before her wounds became fatal. Once in the hospital, her broken spirit makes a resolve to try getting over Sonic.

Fast forward a year later (as that is what the comic literally did). Mina has while Sonic was in space (and assumed dead), become a pop star. Her manager, has become her boyfriend. Mina struggles internally with how to approach the conflicting feelings she has for Sonic. While she cares for him, she is scared she will face future disappointment. However, Ash's insistence to provoke Sonic and take her from him and her friends at times, has proven to be somewhat disappointing as well.

Comic Events

Issue 76, "Business as Usual": Issue of Mina's first appearance. She is amongst the captured Mobians being rounded up. Sonic rescues them, but once rescued Mina runs back into the heart of danger to save her mother. It is here Sonic provides Mina with the reality that her mothers is probably already roboticized. Mina is broken, and complains that he simply doesn't understand what she's going through. Sonic then leaves her with a surprise, he does! He tells how terrible it was to know that happened to his Uncle Chuck and dog, Muttski. Mina apologizes for assuming Sonic wouldn't listen to her point of view, and for assuming he didn't know how she felt. Sally then comes in at the last moment and makes an effort to console Mina. A bittersweet beginning.

Issue 77, "Rebel without a Pause": Sonic and Sally are taking the survivors to Knothole Mina amongst those going. On the way, bots have followed them to the desert that separates Robotropolis from the Great Forest. After the conflict, we find Dulcy coming into the picture to transport everyone to Knothole. The trip is easy going and successful. Mina is now a Knothole Villager.

Issue 80, "If Wishes Were Acorns": Sonic's having difficulty saying goodbye to his parents. They don't even need to ask him why, because they know last time he said goodbye to them the next thing he knew they were along with Chuck and Muttski. Jules and Bernie (Sonic's parents) take time to console Sonic and reassure him they'll be back when he returns from his mission to Station Square (reason: Sonic adventure adaptation). Meanwhile, Mina takes time to observe the interaction between Sonic and his family. She concludes that he has a softer side she hadn't quite seen yet. She tries to say hi to him after passing by him and his family, but he isn't paying attention.

Issue 88, "Family Matters": While Sonic and co were away, Prince Elias overheard Doctor Quack give his father bad news regarding his mother's condition. In response, Elias snuck out of the palace and infiltrated Robotnik's base. He picked up a vial containing a metallic liquid and stole it. Unfortanetely, the Shadow bots caught on to him and chased him through the Great Forest. It was here that Elias would give Mina the things he smuggled to save his mother (before the he was captured), as she was near the Great Oak's enterance. Elias instructed Mina to give the vial to the queen and Mina quickly obeyed. The vial was injected into the queen and followed was intensive surgery. It is in this issue that the Freedom Fighters are alerted of this since they had been absent attending to the adventure in station square (again, referring to Sonic Adventure adaptation).

Issue 90, "Sword of Omens":First story where Mina plays a major role. The story starts as Sonic heads to Robotropolis with the sword of Acorns. His intent was to revive the free will of his uncle. At the moment, he's taken a little detour from his objective because he is getting the feeling that he's being watched somewhere from the bushes. Sonic shouts for the figure in the bushes there is no use in hiding, and to come out of hiding because he knows that he's being watched. Moments later, someone does pop out of the bushes. That someone is of course Mina. Sonic is surprised that the one who had been watching him was a girl. He then tries getting her to understand the dangers lurking within the Great Forest (Robotnik's bots have been lurking around). Mina responds by sarcastically asking if she cares about the dangers of the Great Forest.

After that, Sonic's remembers Mina and asks her if he's seen her some place. Mina reminds him that she was someone she rescued once, and that currently she babysits orphans being raised by Rosie. Once finished talking, Sonic takes a moment to tell her that she wasn't rescued so that she could get captured again. But Mina feels that getting captured wouldn't matter. At least she'd get to confront the man who turned all her loved ones into soulless robots. Sonic asks once she achieves that, what would her form of attack be. Mina simply says to ask why he turned her loved ones into soulless robots, as she feels it doesn't make any sense. She then gets upset as Sonic gives her a look she believes signals that she's wimpy, explaining that not everyone can just pick up a weapon, which helps her notice the sword Sonic holds. She begins to lecture him, reminding him that its the king's sword, not his own.

Of course, that lecture was cut short as com bots shot at them. Sonic pushes Mina out of the shot's way, but not out of danger. The two are now surrounded by bots. As Sonic tries to fight the com bots on his own, one captures Mina, and another activates a magnetic field to grab the sword. Sonic is forced to choose which one he will make his priority to rescue. He chooses the bot holding Mina. Once he makes a choice, the group of com bots create a cloaking device and start trying to attack Sonic. Mina warns him to watch out but he doesn't listen fast enough. So, they rough him up until he's on the ground. Once officially KO'ed, they deactivate their cloaking device, making them very visible. Mina grabs Sonic and tries to escape, but realizes she'll need speed to do it. The need to be faster in Mina's mind is met by her running much quicker than she's used to.

At first it surprises her and can't make any sense of it, but she then takes the ability to find a log to hide into really fast. As the bots leave, Mina sits on a rock a little disappointed. When Sonic awakens, surprised he'd get another chance to wake up after being sucker-punched, he asks Mina what's wrong. Mina tells him that the sword is gone. Sonic offers consolation at the notion she saved both of their lives, and that they'll just simply go and get it back.

Issue 92, "Wrath of Khan": Within this story, Mina, Elias, Rotor, and Nate Morgan all have the pleasure of listening to Geoffrey complain about someone stealing the sword (no, he doesn't know it was Sonic...yet). Upon hearing this, Rotor tells Geoffrey that he and Mina just saw Sonic who said he had to retrieve the sword. Mina coughs loudly, about four times to try signaling to Rotor that he's speaking without thinking. But its too late. Geoffery is too skilled in his job as an investigator to be fooled by that sort of cover up. He wants answers and he takes Mina in hopes that she will give them to him. He takes Mina inside of a hut and demands answers, but Mina doesn't lose her resolve not to tell, leaving Geoffrey with as little answers as he had before the interrogation. Hershey then asks if he'd give them a moment, to see if her approach will work better, and so Geoffrey leaves. Hershey convinces Mina that if she tells her what happened Sonic will not be in any serious trouble. With the notion Sonic will be okay, she confesses and Hershey and Geoffrey leave with the answers regarding the sword that they were seeking.

Issue 93, "Crime and Punishment": Sonic is really unhappy because he lost the sword. He hasn't seen Sally much either. He wants a warm moment with Sally where he apologizes for messing things up. While that doesn't actually happen, He hears Mina off in the distance, overjoyed because he's not imprisoned. Mina uses her speed and tries running to Sonic. This is where viewers first learn Mina can't control the speed very well as she collides into Sonic. The two are in a daze trying to reorient themselves. Once they do, the laugh at the situation and then flirt (Sonic and Mina looking at each other with deep grins and flirtatious stares). The moment is interrupted though, as Antoine, his father, and Bunnie walk in on the situation. Sonic and Mina in response are sweating with embarrassment, sheepishly trying to play the situation off.

Issue 94, "New Order": Knothole has been evolving the infrastructure of the kingdom's official new location. Among some of the things added are hospitals, prisons and public school. The later of the three is where Sonic is going this issue along with some of his friends. Sonic goes to physics class (where his teacher is Nate Morgan) and Mina shares a class with him. Mina sits in one of the chairs next to him and exclaims "Hey, Sonic! We've got a class together! Cool, huh?" Sonic replies with a smile on his face saying "Way past, Mina!" Yet despite the coolness of the situation, Mina notices Sonic seems to be looking for someone else and asks who. Before Sonic can provide an answer, Bunnie comes into the same class and sits in the seat on Sonic's other side. When Sonic reintroduces Bunnie to Mina, Bunnie provides Mina with a cold "Howdy." It may be good to note, that on a Sonic gram touching the issue, it was explained Bunnie saw Mina as a threat to the relationship Sonic had with Sally. It was her way of explaining Sonic was off limits (of course... Mina by this time, Mina didn't see anything to imply they had something). This was probably a response she felt suited for Mina after catching her and Sonic flirt the previous issue.

Issue 96, "The Messenger": Something to note about the story before Mina enters (as it will be of significance to the story when she is), is that Uncle Chuck has sent a bot to knothole to deliver Sonic a message. Mina hands Sonic a note while in class. The note asks if Sonic would tutor her and at what time. to specify, Mina wants tutoring for her speed, which Sonic asks her about later at her locker, when the class is over. when being asked she says yes she really wants to be tutored. Sonic asks her why doesn't she just do things very fast. Mina tries to explain how she can't control it, when Rotor shows up. Sonic asks Rotor if he's seen Tails, and Rotor says no (note: Tails disappeared in the story "New Order", taken by Athair while trying to get to class so that he could become turbo Tails and tend to Knuckles who was at the time evolving).

As Sonic worries about Tails the bot searching for Sonic, to deliver him a message, breaks into the school building. Sonic asks Mina and Rotor to excuse him while he tries fighting the bot (as Sonic has no idea this bot holds a message that is trying to help his search for the sword). Mina and Rotor run with the other student, causing a teacher, Nate Morgan, to come out of his class to figure out what's wrong. Sonic realizes this puts Nate in danger so he tries carrying him to safety. Mina asks Rotor if they did the right thing by leaving Sonic upstairs, when Sonic breaks a hole from the ceiling and places Nate in the location their residing currently so that he's safe. Mina takes the opportunity to ask what she can do, and he tells her to help evacuate everyone.

After Sonic and Bunnie get together to try fighting the bot a bit, they hear Chuck telling giving them the message that the bot was meant to deliver to Sonic. It provides an update about the sword, explaining that Arachnis now has it. The bot is then shot Geoffrey his crew. They take the bot away and advise Bunnie to try making sure her friend doesn't interfere with what they're doing. Sonic's very upset about what happened at school. So, when Mina, Bunnie and Rotor go to see him his parents explain that he's in no mood for company. Mina then asks though that doesn't Chuck being able to make a message to Sonic mean that the sword does in fact have the ability to restore free will to Robians, his parents say yes, but what happens next depends on the active ruler, prince Elias. That leaves Bunnie to ask what Sonic's doing in the meantime. We learn that in his room Sonic is privately creating a new alter ego for himself so that he can address the investigation surrounding the sword of Acorns without his identity being known.

Issue 99, "Blow By Blow": Mina Mongoose pops up around the hedgehog family hut as Bernie and Jules are talking about how they feel bad about being angry at Sonic and Tails (who they consider much like their own son), because they are always being called to duty and worrying them when they don't know where they are. The conclude its not their fault that they have super powers that the rest of the world finds so invaluable. Anyway, the conversation is interrupted by Mina who asks if Sonic is home. Because he is, and is resting in bed Jules notes that a visitor...a very pretty visitor is here to see him, and that its not Bunnie. Sonic wakes up from his sleep considering the notion its Sally. When he finds its Mina who is there for her training, Sonic and Tails go out with her to begin the tutoring mentioned in issue 96.

As that's going on, Sally who hasn't seen Sonic in awhile has decided to disguise herself as a servant girl so that she can sneak out of the palace. While she's on her way to see Sonic, he, Mina, and Tails work with the training. Sonic teases Mina, asking if how fast she's running is the fastest she can go. Mina screams "yes" and crashes into a tree. With that, Sonic tells Tails to go meet him by his parents house. Once Tails leaves Mina confronts Sonic about her feelings. His little tease about her speed left her insecure, as she thought he was serious. She feels that she cannot do the training, and that its all Sonic's fault. She explains she thought they had so much in common: The speed and their parents being roboticized. But then she considers their differences, that he's much faster and in control. She wonders what she was thinking.

Sonic tells her that the tease was in fact just a tease and its apart of being a freedom fighter. Mina's mood quickly changes. She's extremely happy at the fact Sonic has confidence in her potential to be alongside the freedom fighters... so much in fact that she kisses him. Well, this wasn't very good for Sally because she walked in on the kiss, and walked away before she could see Sonic showing any hint of surprise. Unaware of Sally's presence, his attention still is focused on Mina, whom he questions as to why she kissed him. Mina answers that it was her way of thanking him because it was the sweetest thing she heard since in Knothole. Sonic turns his head for a moment as he's being watched, and notices the shadows of a group of girls walking away, although he cannot make out whom they are, or that one of them was Sally.

Moving later into the story, we address two plots within this story. Kodos is running around trying to find the sword of Acorns, and the many of the freedom fighters are now on another mission (Rotor, Tails and Sally). Rotor suggests someone get Sonic so they can have a mission just like old times. Sally then explains its to late for that, thinking about Sonic and Mina kissing. So absorbed in this situation they are, that none of them are really paying attention to Nate Morgan who sees them head off to solve the problem themselves. A fretful Nate eventually finds Sonic on his own, walking with Mina somewhere. Nate tells them of what the other freedom fighters have done, and goes to find Bunnie and Antoine so that they can all join up with the other freedom fighters. All the while, wondering why Sally didn't alert him of the mission.

Issue 100, "Reunion": Since Sonic went to find Antoine and Bunnie so that they could reunite with the other freedom fighters, Mina and Nate up until this point did little besides watch him go. It is at this point where Nate decides to start taking action. Mina asks where Nate is going. The old man responds by saying that he's going to Robotropolis to alert Overlanders of a problem they never considered: The toxins within Robotropolis and how dangerous they are to their health. It is because of this, that Mina decides to head off to find Sonic. When she does, she alerts Sonic of Morgans trip to Robotropolis, as Sonic and Sally were reuniting. (Something to note about the issue for it will be relevant later. Before Sonic and Sally had taken time out to reunite, Sally had found a dying Arachnis who told the location of the sword. Therefore, Sally managed to find it before Mina came, and attacked Kodos under the influence of the sword's power, just as he was about to attack Sonic from behind (evidently he had been following Sally).

The blow sends Kodos falling, down a cliff). So Sonic, the freedom fighters, and Mina all go to Robotropolis. The group splits up. Sally asks Rotor, Bunnie, and Antoine to go with her, while she tries restoring the will of the Robians using the sword. Sonic feels that this leaves him, Tails and Mina to search for Nate, which they try to do. The group goes to find Nate, who is currently with Robotnik as he shows off a roboticized Chuck, and another Overlander recently roboticized. It is at this point Muttski and Chuck try helping Nate escape Robotnik's clutches and reveal to him they in fact have free will. Muttski attacks Robotnik while Chuck tries escorting him to safety. Nate and Charles run into a series of bots on the way, but Sonic takes care of them and has a brief moment with his uncle. Not long after, they manage to catch up with Sally and her group who have just finished restoring free will with the sword of Acorns.

As the Robians are being escorted out of the city, Nate breaks away from the crowd, noticed by no one. So, when they get to Robotropolis' exit, the dome of energy used to block Sonic from entering the city in the "Sword of Omens" now keeps him, the freedom fighters, Mina, and the Robians trapped inside. Robotnik takes time to boast about this course of action he has taken, but the problem is pretty much cut short by Nate removing the dome of energy somewhere within the city. By the end of the story, Robotnik finds Nate and alerts him of serious consequences that Nate is very aware of (roboticization).
