Even with artistic pretensions the underlying purpose of anime is to make money. While this is all well and good, sometimes it goes too far. Death and Rebirth is a prime example of this as it is nothing more than repackaging used animation for more money.

Fifteen years after that catastrophe that nearly destroyed humanity named second impact the angels attacked. The only thing that can defeat these monsters are giant robots called Evangelions under the care of the NERV organization. By a quirk of fate Evangelions can only be piloted by special children who are all fourteen years old. Namely these pilots are Shinji, the shy son of the head of NERV, The quiet and mysterious Rei, and a loud and selfish Asuka. With Evangelion nothing is completely simple and the job the three children have been given is an extremely taxing one.

Evangelion death and rebirth is divided into two parts. The first part death is a synopsis of the show. This synopsis is literally a clip show of the television series with the occasional dialogue insert from a different episode. The second part rebirth is the first part the End of Evangelion movie. In either case if you have the Evangelion show and End of Eva movie (both of which I recommend) there is no reason to see this. There used to be a reason to see this as it was made before End of Eva but now there isn't.
