Review Full metal panic Written by Warpshadow Rating very good

Every genre has it's character stereotypes. They are the product of a story told hundreds of time with little variation. If you try to stick one genre's stereotypes into another genre however, you got yourself something new. That explains why Full metal panic is such a good show.

Kaname Chidori was a normal high school girl with a normal life until a student named Sosuke Sagara transferred to her school. Sosuke is a weird military freak whose self appointed job is to protect her, or as she sees it make her life a nightmare with his constant interruptions. The truth is that Sosuke is an agent for a secret mercenary organization named Mithral and a crack soldier and mech pilot. That still doesn't change the fact that he is a military freak with little to no social skills.

Full metal panic is a weird combination of action and high school comedy. The former is good largely because of good animation. The latter is good largely because Sosuke is an interesting and original character. The rest of the cast isn't bad either. While both aspects are good individually they do trip each other up a bit leaving the plot a bit weak. The multiple genre approach does allow for a wider audience though making it something you can probably watch with your friend even if their tastes are a bit different. Overall Full metal panic is a fun show although not a great one.
