There is some trepidation or outright disgust when the term maid show is uttered. In the case of Mahoromatic the fear is a bit misplaced but in truth only slightly.

Since Suguru Misato was a boy living alone he need a maid to take care of the house. He was not expecting a woman who was anything like Mahoro. Not only was she younger than expected she was also a retired combat android. Given that she only had a limited amount of operating time left she planned to live out the rest of her days as a maid for an unmentioned reason. The hijinks caused by a new robotic maid may be problematic as well as the scars of a past drenched in blood.

The idea of a show about a robot maid will set off alarm bells in many anime fans about the show consisting entirely of fan service. While such concern is somewhat warranted in the case of Mahoromatic the fan service is only a part of the show, not it's main crux. Instead this is a story about two people that grow to find meaning in their lives through each other even if it is not a standard romantic relationship. Even with this I would best describe Mahoromatic as a show for those who like a show with their fan service.
