The late eighties and early nineties were a great time for anime Oavs. However there was in my opinion a problem with this. Namely there were many, many Oavs like Phantom Quest Corp that could have used more air time to expand on their stories.

Out of all the many companies in Japan the Phantom Quest Corp is special in that it’s business is solving the problems caused by the supernatural world. Headed by the beautiful wastrel Ayaka Kisaragi the Phantom Quest Corp will handle any case whether it is given to them by the police or a private customer. However a more formidable foe than any ghost or goblin is the business finances which are constantly a sea of red ink.

Phantom Quest Corp is a four episode Oav that resembles four filler episodes of a monster hunting tv series. As such each episode is pretty much centered around finding and disposing of the monster of the week whatever it might be. The plot does have enough punch to it to keep it from being complexly boring. Tghe characters are pretty flat although there is some untapped possibility in them; particularly Ayaka. In short Phant Quest Corp isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, it just isn’t good enough to be anything more than rental material.
