Watching giant robots fight slimy aliens may not be for everybody but if you want a mecha show that doesn’t feel all that emo you might want to look into Getter Robo.

Ten years ago there was a great war where humanity fought aliens in what is called the lunar wars. Ryoma was a veteran of those wars but due to suspicion of killing Dr. Saotome (who invented the Getter Robo) is put in prison. When aliens attack again powerful warriors are needed and Ryoma is granted a pardon in order to fight them alongside his old comrades. When the attack turns out to be the revenge of Dr. Saotome returned from the grave the stakes become all the more personal in this battle for the fate of the planet.

There are several types of mecha show but Getter Robo was one of the pioneers of the hot blooded shows about heroes riding metal monstrosities that fight monsters of the week. What this Oav changes about the formula is that the downtime between fights between Getter and whatever aliens is shortened as much as humanly possible. There is a bit of a lull in the plot around episode four but this is mainly due to a big event that happens at the end of episode three that I don’t want to give away. Getter Robo Armageddon does make some references to old Getter Robo animation but for the most part they do not make the show unwatchable or even all that confusing do to the fact that any plot is what happens between giant robot fights. What Getter Robo Armageddon for your hot blooded mecha fix or if you don’t need one ignore it like it doesn’t exist.
