Gonzo has had a bit of an odd idea of taking classic works of art and setting them in space. See where it all started with this anime show.

The end of the great wars promised peace but for many that was not the case. For the rice farmers of Kana village their misfortune was to be victimsd of mechanized bandits known as Nobuserei. The threat of starvation loomed but all the peasants knew that they had no chance against the gigantic bandits. The solution that the village leader came up with is simple, the village should hire Samurai to fight off the bandits. So three of the villagers head for the city of Kogakyo so that they could find samurai who are willing to risk their lives for rice.

The Seven Samurai is a famous movie by Akira Kurosawa and this anime series is a rather loose interpretation of it. Rather than worry about the accuracy of the adaptation I would suggest that one should think of this television show as an unconnected action series. Using that as a measure Samurai 7 is a fairly good show that has good action scenes and decent characters. This could have been a better show but things such as uneven art and pacing that hurts the show in the beginning keep my score down although it does improve in later episodes. Overall I found Samurai 7 to be a decent but unremarkable action series the is probably most interesting for the setting.
