If Lovely Idol is good for anything it will make you more appreciative of good characterization. Heck most two dimensional characters are deeper than the cast of this show.

The Lovedols are the name of a group of idols that are brought together by Sweetfish productions. The first two groups of Lovedols have gone on to become famous idols and Sweetfish is looking to put together the third group of Lovedols together. There are four girls in the group but the group’s manager, Tomohiro, stil felt that there was something that the group was lacking. When he hears about a street performer named Mizuki he thinks that he has found the missing element. That is if he can manage to convince Mizuki to join the Lovedols.

Perhaps the one thing that any story sands or falls on is the characters. In that respect to this issue Lovely Idol falls like the stock market in 29. The main reason for this is that there is an overwhelming number of characters and a lack of time spent developing them. This is especially bad in the case of the love dols, also known as the main cast. In many cases the group is treated as a gestalt entity rather than a collection of individual people. The tone of the show is a bit too hyper to qualify as a slice of life show and too little happens to qualify this show as anything else. In short Lovely Idol annoyed me like few shows can and thus I really don’t recommend this to anybody.
