When I was growing up as a little anime fan I was never touched by the Robotech craze and so I am say without any clouded sense of nostalgia that Macross is a classic anime that has stood the test of time.

Ten years ago a derilect spaceship fell to Earth. Since the UN government has spent considerable resources researching it and fixing it so it could fly again. On the day of it's first lfight in years it accidentally fired it's main cannon. The misfire drew the attention of aliens called the Zentradi who attacked in such force that the Macross (the name of the ship that is the cause of all these events) had to take off taking all the citizens of the surrounding city with it. Little does anybody aboard know but that it is only the curtain opening on a war that will alter the course of human history. There are only a few anime shows that carry the same amount of lasting popularity as the original Macross. Such popularity did not come without reason as this show should appeal to a broad audience (at least those that can appriciate a show with dated animation) as this show combines action, romance and the occasional philosophical musing very well. While this is a historic series that lasts over twenty six episodes there are still some points that feel rushed. While this is a mecha show I would say that this a show that doesn't depend on watching giant robots fight each other for the shows entire hook. If you want to call yourself a well rounded anime fan I suggest that you see this show.
